It's that time of the year when some of our orchids need special attention. Diana Lenartiene will discuss cold tolerance of orchids and explain how you can protect your orchids.
Like most growers, I started out as a hobbyist just like you. The name Lady Vanda started with my grandma. Once my collection got a bit out of hand, she started calling me 'Señorita Vanda' and 'Señorita de las Orquideas'. The latter is quite the mouthful, so I decided to translate 'Señorita Vanda', thus Lady Vanda was born.
Lady Vanda started from my passion for orchids and nature in general. But I love to help others find their green thumb, even when they don't think they have one. I saw an opportunity to cater to the new generation of orchidists. Most people find orchids intimidating and hard to care for. I want everyone of all age groups to be interested in orchids. I want to help everyone start and grow their orchid collection.
With Lady Vanda I plan to spread my knowledge of orchids and other exotic plants with everyone. My goal is to help everyone dip their toes and feel supported through their journey with plants. You can find me on a number of orchid and houseplant groups as a mentor. I aim to bring my customers a variety of plants from all over the world.
In 2024,our meetings will be on the 3rd Monday of every month at 1:00 p.m. at the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens except for:
May (Annual Retreat)
July and August (Summer Break)
December (Holiday Recognition Luncheon).
Our meetings are venues for information sharing and interaction with professional growers and speakers as well as classes. Meetings include “Show and Tell” for members to show off their blooming orchids, raffles, orchid exchanges, and refreshments. Meetings frequently include an educational workshop starting at noon. We have an annual picnic, holiday luncheon, and a large orchid show. which is sanctioned and judged by the American Orchid Society.
Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in orchids, regardless of an individual's level of expertise. We believe that we should "pay it forward," taking what has been taught to us and sharing our knowledge with others, both within the Society and with the general public.
We invite you to join us and learn about orchids.
If you’re a member of our Facebook group, post pictures of your blooming orchids (https://www.facebook.com/groups/PSLOS/).
